Thirdly , we are designing costumes, storyboarding a scene and performing it in front of our peers. Finally, we are filling in our WONDER Wall with #choosekind postcards for August! A report card on Education systems

This learning mission is part of the Spanish nationwide initiative on Education on Open Government run by the Spanish Ministries of Education and Public Administrations, for which I have been appointed to take part with my students, in an experimental didactic classroom programme. The learning mission is divided in various steps: Step 1 . Students are asked to read the following factsheets, listed above, on different education systems and to investigate: - UK education system - American education system - Spanish education system Step 2 . Then, they are requested to collect the most relevant facts, the differences, the simillarities, the advantages and the disadvantages. It is very much appreciated that they include their personal opinion about the three systems, and that they focus closely on the role that EEOOII play in them. Step 3 . Finally they are asked to design a report card , which is their support when delivering their speaking mission and explaining about the...

Wonder is coming!

Our second term reading adventure, Wonder , is starting right now! Get ready to see people from another viewpoint! Here you are the official movie trailer:   Based on the New York Times bestseller, Wonder tells the inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman.   Born with facial differences that, up until now, have prevented him from going to a mainstream school, Auggie becomes the most unlikely of heroes when he enters the local fifth grade.   As his family, his new classmates, and the larger community all struggle to find their compassion and acceptance, Auggie's extraordinary journey will unite them all and prove you can't blend in when you were born to stand out. The bestseller is already waiting for you at the School Library, on the ground floor. Do not miss another minute and get it!

Sharing viewpoints about 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society'

On 13 December 2018, B2.1 and C1 ESL students gathered together at EOI Luarca, Room 32, first floor, for our first book discussion club meetup , after having been reading ' The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society ' novel for nearly three months. Reading is much more than opening a book and thumbing page after page. Reading means imagining the time and location where a novel is set, understanding the characters and their reactions as well as putting yourself in their shoes; analysing the authors' styles and backgrounds, reviewing, commenting and feeling the whole story, so as to later celebrate your learning with your class peers in a social event. For example, a school meetup.  This is obviously time consuming and involves prior work before joining such a book discussion club meetup, and the B2.1 and C1 ESL students who attended last Thursday's meetup were up to the challenge, and even thought of empowering everybody's brains ...

Our meetups will be in Room 32 , at our Languages School, first floor, on Thursday 13, at 17:00 and at 19:00  correspondingly, and we will be gathering for over a couple of hours to discuss and debate on the aforesaid book. How we are going to organise the meetup: - We will all be bringing the book we have previously read at home. - We will not be reading aloud, unless somebody really wishes to do so in order to highlight some paragraphs, sentences or chapters that trigger the discussion. - We will be later (the following week) watching the book-based film and having a social gathering for further debate and comparison. - We will then have a social online learning challenge entitled ' Tasty books ' (up to 20 December 2018). - We will be appointing at least one coordinator per m...

Warm-up activities Have a look at this trailer and think about the following questions : What kind of film is it? Where was the film set in your opinion? Is it based on a book? Which historical period is it dated from? Can you imagine the plot? After watching the trailer, answer these questions :  Would you like to go and see the film? Why were the locations chosen by the film crew? 4. Now, plan a paragraph about a location nearby where a film has ...
