I neither think that Oliver Twist´s character is simple nor that he is only an ingenuous and good child. I think he is a romantic idealist who is aware of the evil of the world and dislikes it. For this reason he tries to make his way through it, while he is avoiding becoming corrupt if possible, in spite of a lot of blows that he bears. He has chosen a very difficult way indeed. He has a strong personality.
ResponderEliminarIn my opinion Oliver´s character is very similar to Don Quixote of La Mancha. I have read somewhere that the Cervantes´s novel was a Dickens´s reading.
I think it is a very current topic in our country.
I must confess that I´m not an expert in literature and probably I am wrong.
